Safety and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator (Full-Time) - Plant Operations

Job Summary:
- SAFETY MANAGEMENT
• Coordinate and maintain the hospital Safety Management Program, including safety plans, policies, and procedures.
• Conduct routine environmental rounds, safety inspections, and risk assessments; document findings and track corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Facilities, Nursing, and leadership to address life safety, fire safety, utility management, hazardous materials, and workplace safety issues.
• Support OSHA compliance efforts, including bloodborne pathogens, hazard communication, and workplace injury prevention.
• Participate in safety committees and support incident reporting, trending, and analysis.
- EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & PLANNING
• Develop, maintain, and annually update the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA), and related emergency preparedness policies.
• Ensure compliance with CMS Emergency Preparedness Rule, state regulations, and accreditation standards, as applicable.
• Coordinate continuity of operations planning (COOP) and business continuity activities.
• Maintain all-hazards response plans, including natural disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, mass casualty incidents, utility failures, cybersecurity events, and workplace violence.
- TRAINING, DRILLS & EXERCISES
• Coordinate safety and emergency preparedness training for all hospital staff.
• Plan, conduct, and document required emergency preparedness exercises.
• Complete after-action reports and improvement plans; track corrective actions through resolution.
- INCIDENT RESPONSE & COORDINATION
• Serve as a key participant in the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) during drills and real events.
• Assist with incident command activation, documentation, and communication during emergencies.
• Act as a liaison with local emergency management agencies, public health departments, EMS, fire services, and law enforcement.
• Support post-incident reviews and corrective action planning.
- DOCUMENTATION & REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
• Maintain required safety and emergency preparedness documentation, records, and reports.
• Prepare for and support regulatory surveys, audits, and inspections, including CMS and state reviews.
• Monitor regulatory changes related to safety and emergency preparedness and assist with implementation.
- COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
• Partner with Nursing, Facilities, Infection Prevention, IT, Human Resources, and leadership to integrate safety and preparedness across departments.
• Participate in regional healthcare coalitions and community emergency preparedness meetings.
• Support emergency communication processes, including staff notification systems and patient and family communications.
- ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with risk management, security, and workplace violence prevention initiatives.
• Support emergency preparedness grants or funding opportunities when applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of hospital operations.
Skill/Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Safety, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of two years of experience in healthcare safety, emergency management, risk management, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of CMS Emergency Preparedness requirements and OSHA regulations.
• Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) and Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a hospital or Critical Access Hospital setting.
• FEMA certifications including ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800, or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
• Certification in healthcare safety or emergency preparedness, including CHSP, CHEP, CEM, or equivalent.
• Experience conducting safety rounds, drills, and after-action reporting.
